Students from SciencesPo Paris at the 2009 EDD

Aleksandar Rankovic and Clément Feger are both doing a Masters in Environmental Science and Politics (SciencesPo/UPMC) at the Paris Institute of Political Studies (IEP).

The Chair of Sustainable Development at the Paris IEP asked 6 students (Christelle Bakhache, Lucas Chancel, Christophe De Sahb, Clément Feger, Thomas Matagne and Aleksandar Rankovic) to write two articles on climate change adaptation policies in the Mediterranean and Sahel regions.

Two of these, Aleksandar Rankovic and Clément Feger, came to the Stockholm EDD to promote their work. This was a new experience for them, as it was their first time at a European Development Days conference.

A meeting with young students with a promising future.

Aleksandar and Clément have posted a message:

Hi Everyone,

Climate change adaptation is now being discussed within the framework of international negotiations on climate and in preparation for the Copenhagen summit (COP 15) to be held very soon. Six students from SciencesPo Paris have collaborated with their institution’s Chair of Sustainable Development in studying the particular characteristics required from adaptation policies. Indeed, we are proposing strategies for confronting the difficulties decision-makers experience when implementing adaptation policies when there is still uncertainty about the impact of climate change. We take two regions as examples:  the Mediterranean basin to illustrate the idea of “a strategy of no regrets” and the Sahelian region and the Great Green Wall to propose policies of flexibility.

You are warmly invited to read these two papers, put on line on this page (link below) and to discuss them with us. These are only modest contributions aimed primarily at participating in the current debate over ideas on present and future global changes.
