NGOs and universities renowned for their expertise in development can become guest commentators. These partnerships aim to encourage a direct debate between development specialists, and guarantee a rich debate thanks to the diversity of their perspectives.

The Paris School of Economics is an international centre of excellence in Economics, merging leading research and teaching institutions and bringing together more than 300 students enrolled in Masters and PhD programmes. Research at PSE covers all domains of Economic Science, with a focus on a number of subjects, such as international trade, the evaluation of public policy, labour economics, and the theory of decision in uncertain environments.

The Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy was founded in 1986. IATP’s mission is to promote resilient family farms, rural communities and ecosystems around the world through research and education, science and technology, and advocacy. It works to democratize the multilateral system of policy-making. It strengthens civil society by linking social movements working on trade, development, peace, human rights, labor, gender, the environment and corporate responsibility. IATP is based in the U.S., and has an office in Geneva, where the Trade Information Project is run.

The School of International Relations and Public Affairs

The School of International Relations and Public Affairs (SIRPA) at Fudan University, one of China’s flagship research universities, was established in 2000 to promote teaching and research on public and international affairs. It is home to three academic departments - political science, international politics, and public administration. Affiliated to SIRPA is Fudan University’s Institute of International Studies, which houses nine centers and one research unit for area and global studies. Based in Shanghai, a dynamic metropolis, SIRPA aims at reaching globally. Its faculty members work closely with domestic and international students in seventeen degree programs to prepare them to better serve the world.

The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) is a nonpartisan American public policy and grantmaking institution dedicated to promoting greater cooperation and understanding between North America and Europe. GMF does this by supporting individuals and institutions working on transatlantic issues, by convening leaders to discuss the most pressing transatlantic themes, and by examining ways in which transatlantic cooperation can address a variety of global policy challenges. In addition to its head­quarters in Washington, DC, GMF has seven offices in Europe: Berlin, Bratislava, Paris, Brussels, Belgrade, Ankara, and Bucharest.

The Economic Policy program is an initiative of GMF dedicated to promoting cooperation between North America and Europe on domestic and international economic policies as vital instruments of global prosperity, especially for the poor and those affected by shifts in the global economy.

IPC

The International Poverty Centre (IPC) is a partnership between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Institute for Applied Economic Research (IPEA), which is linked to the Government of Brazil. The IPC carries out applied research in poverty and inequality and offers research-based policy recommendations on how to reduce them. IPC’s current Research Programmes include: Social Protection and Cash Transfers; Access to Finance and Basic Services; Gender Equality; Macroeconomic Policies to Revert the HIV/AIDS Epidemic; Economic Policies, MDGs and Poverty; and the State of the World Economy. IPC hosts Study Tours for representatives of developing countries to build South-South dialogue on a wide array of development topics and promotes extensive training in poverty reduction policies.

CARE is one of the world’s largest private international humanitarian organizations, which mission is to serve individuals and families in the poorest communities in the world, through emergency relief and development programs. CARE aims to improve basic education, prevent the spread of HIV, increase access to clean water and sanitation, expand economic opportunity and protect natural resources. Working in nearly 70 countries CARE is reaching over 55 million beneficiaries each year. CARE places special focus on working alongside women as they are the first victims of poverty.

Groupe d’Economie Mondiale

The Groupe d’Economie Mondiale de Sciences Po (GEM) is an independent think tank. Established in 1998 in response to the increasingly complex implications of globalisation, GEM has initially focused on trade policies. In October 2004, GEM has launched studies on regulatory reforms – a key area in Europe and in the transatlantic and international context, most notably in services. This initiative is jointly developed with the American Enterprise Institute and Brookings, two of the most authoritative sources on regulation in the United States.

PhD in Sustainable Development

Housed at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, the PhD in Sustainable Development is a multidisciplinary program combining elements of a traditional graduate education in social science, particularly economics, with a significant component of training in the natural sciences. The purpose of the program is to create a generation of professionals and scholars equipped to deal with some of the most crucial problems of the world today, undertaking serious research and policy assessments to further the goal of sustainable development.

The Development Studies Institute (DESTIN) was established in 1990 to promote interdisciplinary post-graduate teaching and research on processes of social, political and economic development and change. The Institute is dedicated to understanding problems of poverty and late development within local communities, national political and economic systems and in the international system.
