Minouche SHAFIK
Nemat (Minouche) Shafik is Permanent Secretary of the Department for International Development (DFID) which is responsible for leading the British Government’s fight against world poverty. She is responsible for development programmes and policy work on the United Nations system, the international financial institutions, Europe, country assistance, civil society, trade, policy and research, conflict prevention, and climate change. Prior to joining DFID, Minouche was the World Bank’s Vice President for Private Sector and Infrastructure.
Josette SHEERAN
Josette Sheeran was appointed WFP Executive Director in April 2007. Previously, she served as Under Secretary for Economic, Energy and Agricultural Affairs at the US Department of State. Besides issues including development, trade, agriculture, finance, energy, telecommunications and transportation, Sheeran focused on economic diplomacy to help developing nations advance towards economic self-sufficiency and prosperity.
Abdou DIOUF
Abdou Diouf was elected as Secretary General of La Francophonie at the Beirut summit in October 2002 and then re-elected in 2006. He is the former President of the Republic of Senegal (1981 – 2000) and graduated from the Ecole nationale de la France d’Outre-mer (National School of Overseas France) in 1960. Abdou DIOUF led a career as a high-ranking civil servant, first as Minister for the Plan and for Industry (1968-1970), then as Prime Minister (1970-1980) and finally as President of the Republic of Senegal.
Donald KABERUKA
Mr. Donald Kaberuka is the 7th elected President of the African Development Bank Group. As President of the Bank Group, Mr. Kaberuka chairs the Boards of the African Development Bank and the African Development Fund, the soft loan arm of the Group.
Pascal LAMY
Mr Lamy has formerly held the positions of European Commissioner for Trade, CEO of Credit Lyonnais Bank, and Chief of staff for the President of the European Commission. He took office as Director-General of the World Trade Organization in September 2005.
Dr Rajendra Kumar PACHAURI
Dr. R.K. Pachauri was elected Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in April 2002. Under his leadership, the IPCC was the recipient of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize along with former Vice President of the USA, Al Gore. Dr Pachauri is also the Director-General of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), New Delhi, an institution that does original research and provides knowledge in the areas of energy, environment, forestry, biotechnology, and the conservation of natural resources to governments, institutions, and corporate organizations around the world.
Supachai PANITCHPAKDI
Dr. Supachai Panitchpakdi began his four-year term as Secretary-General of UNCTAD on 1 September 2005, following his appointment by the UN General Assembly. He previously served as Director-General of the World Trade Organization and as Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce. Dr. Supachai received his Ph.D. in Economic Planning and Development from Erasmus University in Rotterdam.
Achim STEINER
Acting on the nomination of Secretary-General Kofi Annan, the UN General Assembly unanimously elected Achim Steiner as the Executive Director of UNEP on 16 March 2006 for a four-year term, effective 15 June 2006. Mr. Steiner becomes the fifth Executive Director in UNEP’s history.
António GUTERRES
António Guterres took office as UN High Commissioner for Refugees on June 15, 2005, becoming the refugee agency’s 10th High Commissioner. Before joining UNHCR Mr. Guterres spent more than 20 years in government and public life, serving as Prime Minister of Portugal from 1996 to 2002.
